An Introduction to Me!

An Introduction to Me!

Hello there! My name is Sinéad Heffernan. I am a Model Making student in I.A.D.T, Dun Laoghaire. Model making encompasses a lot of different fields of design (e.g. digital work, product design, character design, costume design) and construction (e.g. woodwork, mould making, architectural modelling, ergonomical product design and sculpture).
I started in I.A.D.T in 2012 and will be graduating in 2016. In the last year, I completed modules including architectural modelling,
product design, prop making, scale modelling, digital poster design and 3 dimensional digital modelling. As well as that, I have done work in soft sculpting, set design and construction, costume design and small prop construction.
I intend to keep an updated blog of my work during my next few years in college and hopefully I won't fall behind on that! So, I hope you enjoy my work and any and all feedback is more than welcome!
The hair colour may change but the work is always mine!
   Thanks and enjoy!
   Sinéad.

Batman Accessories Designs!

So recently, being a giant super hero fan, I decided I wanted to make some new things. I wasn't very sure what I'd be making but I thought I'd just go for it! I starts just designing my own logos and such for super hero characters (really just for practice at photoshop and autoCAD) and decided I'll be turning them into badges, necklaces and broaches as a way of practicing my mould making skills! First idea to design; Batman!
So I went a little over board designing!
Each badge had at least 2 different designs for it, just trying to find the best one!

The Joker
Batman
Harley Quinn
The Riddler
Poison Ivy
Penguin
I picked the best of designs, saved them as PDF files, imported them to photoshop, then used a Waccom tablet (for the first time might I add!) to give some colour and flair to the designs!

The designs took a while to do since I was getting used to the new waccom tablet but I'm happy with how they came out! Next step will be casting them...once I get the supplies!

Little Shop of Horrors - Audrey II Sculpture

So recently I got a little obsessed with the movie The Little Shop of Horrors. Mainly for the puppetry of the giant Audrey II plant! I love that man eating plant so for fun decided to make my own!

I started off by building a wire frame based on the profiles on the plant head, stuffing and wrapping it in tin foil, and then covering it in Super Sculpey.

After I had the basic shape I needed, I realized I was silly enough to forget to attach the neck! Not too much of a worry, easy fix to attach a piece of PVC  pipe to the existing frame work. Then I started adding on the big lips and ridges and veins in the head.

Once I had all the veins, I used lighter fluid to smooth out the surface. Then I used a sculpting tool to make little pits on the head that would mimic the miniscule veins when painted. Once I was happy with the sculpt I used a heat gun to harden it.

So far, so good! Still a work in progress and I will up date as the work continues! In the mean time, share your comments, I love some criticism!
